Jack Barker is a Managing Director of Profectus Partners.
Jack has over 30 years of experience in international business and consulting. His broad-ranging career includes starting new offices and sector practices for McKinsey & Co. in South America and the U.S. Jack has also been responsible for profit improvement, sales growth, regulatory affairs and turnaround management in a variety of consulting and operating positions for Fortune 500 clients and The Carlyle Group. Jack has developed particular expertise in electric power, retailing, financial services, telecommunications, consumer products and heavy manufacturing. Jack’s career also includes significant expatriate assignments in the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Australia, and Brazil.
In addition to his responsibilities at Profectus, Jack is Managing Director of the DC Capital Group, which he co-founded in 2010 to focus on infrastructure companies, asset backed investments, international real estate and corporate special situations for high net worth individuals and family offices. As part of his responsibilities, Jack also serves as Vice Chairman of SmartSenseCom, Inc., an optical sensor company that he helped to start where he also served as President before hiring the current management team. Most recently, Jack served as interim CFO of USA Rugby, the national governing board for Rugby in the United States, where he executed a successful restructuring in the face of imminent financial difficulty.
Prior to founding DC Capital group, Jack was a Principal of The Carlyle Group, and a Partner with McKinsey & Co. Inc. At Carlyle, Jack started a new cellular telephone company in support of a related telecom transaction and co-led the team responsible for starting a new financial services investment fund. During his tenure, Jack also led two portfolio company restructurings where he served as CFO and COO.
At McKinsey, Jack served major corporations and governments throughout the world. Jack was a founding partner of McKinsey’s Miami office, which grew to be over 50 consultants and $25 million in revenue in just 3 years. He also founded McKinsey’s South American telecom practice, which accounted for over 40% of Brazilian office revenues the year he returned to the United States. Early in his career, Jack spent 5 years leading grass-roots level turnarounds in paper mills throughout North America.
Jack received his MBA from the Harvard Business School where he graduated with High Distinction (as a Baker Scholar). He also holds a BS, Summa Cum Laude, in Mechanical Engineering and Material Science from Duke University.
